Connect the rain barrel to the rain pipe through a rain barrel filling machine

A rain barrel filling machine ensures that the rain barrel can be connected directly to the rain pipe. The filling machine ensures that the rain barrel is filled with rainwater and that the excess water is drained downwards through the rain pipe. When the rain barrel is full, the rainwater will simply be drained away.

There are two ways in which you can connect the rain barrel to the downspout using the filling machine. If you follow the step-by-step plan below and have the right tools, you will be fine! Therefore, always make sure you have a tape measure, saw/hacksaw, file, pencil and gloves.

You can connect the rain barrel by sawing a piece out of the rain pipe so that you can install the handy filling machine. Then make sure that the rain barrel is next to the rain pipe and check the height of the hole in the rain barrel. You can then put a line on the drainpipe so that you know where to use the saw.

Then cut off a piece of the downspout and place the filler between the ends of the existing downspout. You can then place the outlet pipe in between. In this way, the rainwater flows from the downspout into the rain barrel so that you can use the rainwater to provide the ground with water!

Connect a rain barrel by drilling a hole in the rain barrel

You can also follow the simple steps by drilling a hole in the downspout. You can then drill a hole with a hole drill and place the filling machine in it. If you are going to install a rain barrel, make sure the hole is big enough and you will have your barrel full in no time!

Connect a rain barrel directly to the downspouts

You can also use the rainwater by connecting rain barrels directly to the rain pipe. You can then drill a hole in the lid of the rain barrel, often a part has already been marked for this. Make sure that the rain barrel has a drain, so that when it is full it can still overflow in a controlled manner.

Tips for using a rain barrel

If you have a rain barrel, it is important that you take the following things into account in order to be able to use the rain barrel for as long as possible.

By closing the rain barrel with a lid, you prevent mess from entering the water. Think of leaves, but also nuisance from mosquitoes, for example. Also ensure that the rain barrel cannot subside, as this can lead to water running back into the downspout. So make sure you have an elevation or use a hose to drain excess water.

When winter is coming, you need to make sure you prepare the rain barrel for winter. Empty the rain barrel. Let the filling machine drain the water to the sewer or directly into the garden.
